- Daryl Haney was nearly killed by a car while crossing the street on Sunset Boulevard in 1990. He was in the hospital for two months, had five surgeries, and to this day has a steel rod holding one of his legs together. Friends said he walked like John Wayne after the accident, so he was given the nickname "Iron Duke," which was eventually shortened to just plain "Duke."
- Had never seen a "Friday the 13th" movie at the time he was approached about writing one. He successfully pitched the idea for "Part VII" on a payphone, not owning a phone of his own.
