Biography
American actor John Fiedler did his first professional work in his native Wisconsin. Fiedler's many Broadway appearances included the 1960 play A Raisin in the Sun, in which he was the only Caucasian in a virtually all-black cast. His first film role was as the supplicative Juror No. 2 in Twelve Angry Men (1957). Fiedler's stock in trade was the meek-looking soul who compensated for his demeanor with a nasty temper or sadistic streak. In this capacity, he was often seen as vindictive school principals, obstreperous civil servants or combative psychiatric patients (vide TV's The Bob Newhart Show). Incredibly prolific in films and on television, John Fiedler's best-known role was Vinnie, Oscar Madison's card-playing crony in both the stage and screen versions of Neil Simon's The Odd Couple.
Portayed Homer on NBC Radio's "The Aldrich Family" (1952-1953).
According to his obituaries he was survived by his brother, James Fiedler and a sister, Mary Dean.
Has the impressive distinction of being the only actor to give voice to his character (Piglet) in all the different animated versions of Winnie the Pooh from Walt Disney, from Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day (1968) all the way through to Pooh's Heffalump Movie (2005).
Served in the U.S. Navy during WWII.
Diagnosed with cancer, he became a patient of the Lillian Booth Actor's Fund Home in Englewood, New Jersey, in November of 2004 and died there the following June.
Provided the voice of "Piglet" for the Pooh series from 1968 with "Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day" until shortly before his death. Disney himself heard Fiedler's voice and hand-picked the actor. Ironically, Fiedler died one day after voice specialist Paul Winchell, who voiced the role of Tigger.
Father was a beer salesman.
Used to stage productions in his family garage with neighborhood children.
Played the same character, Mark Lindner, in the 1961 film and the 1989 television production of Lorraine Hansberry's "A Raisin in the Sun."
