Heavyweight boxer Ken Norton is most famous for having defeated Muhammed Ali in a highly publicized 1973 match. He cashed in on his newfound celebrity by becoming an actor, making his debut playing a brawny African slave who is forced into a heated affair with a plantation mistress in Mandingo (1975). He also starred in the sequel, Drum (1976). Norton continued making sporadic film appearances through the early '90s. |

- Inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame, 1992.
- Son is Ken Norton Jr. (born 26-Sep-1966), a Linebacker with San Francisco 49ers.
- Inducted into the World Boxing Hall of Fame, 1989.
- Served in the U.S. Marine Corps. during the Vietnam War. He boxed on the Marine Corps boxing team and compiled a record of 24-2 with 22 knockouts.
- On March 31, 1973, a 15-1 underdog, he broke Muhammad Ali's jaw and won an upset 12 round decision.
